Sabar added, “We continue to be aggressive and anticipate the shuttlecock’s direction as the wind is quite strong. Our focus is to take each match one at a time, hoping that this trend continues.” In the first set, the Indonesian pair played evenly until reaching a tie at 6-6, before eventually leading 11-9 at the interval and closing the set with a score of 21-15. The second set was more closely contested, with the Japanese pair briefly leading 7-4. However, Sabar and Reza managed to turn the tide and maintain their advantage to seal a 21-16 victory. “The Japanese men’s doubles players are almost similar in their persistence. But because Midorikawa is a mixed doubles player, he has good control over half and backhand shots,” Sabar commented on their opponents. With this result, Sabar and Reza secured a spot in the round of 16 following Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto’s victory against Malaysia’s Nur Moh Azryn Ayub and Wee Kiong Tan with scores of 21-18, 21-16. Sabar and Reza will next face India’s representatives, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who defeated Malaysia’s Choong Hon Jian and Muhammad Haikal in straight sets of 21-16, 21-13.
